Everything you should know about Bullying Kids

Let’s understand the meaning of ‘Bullying.’

The real meaning of ‘Bullying’ is when someone harasses or spreads rumors or practice social exclusion about someone that too, with direct face to face contact to make the person feel embarrassed.

Bullying kids is also defined as chronic abuse to someone who cannot or is not able to raise a voice or defend themselves from the tormentor.

Bullying includes bad or toxic behavior, including:

  • Assault
  • Threatening
  • Blackmail
  • Malicious destruction of property or vandalism
  • Cruel teasing.

Bullying is always done where there’s an unequal power relationship between the victim and the bully.

When do most of the bullying cases arise?

Most of the bullying cases can be seen during schooling. Bullying kids seem worst in smaller grades. There are cases of peer harassment in the lower grades, and things start to diminish gradually with the higher grades.

It is observed that boys face more bullying than girls, and that too the direct attack. Girls are more exposed to indirect bullying in the form of social exclusion, torture, slandering, friendships with manipulations.

Some examples of bullying

At the time of school’s lunchtime, everyone goes out in the ground area with their friends and play their favorite sport, while one kid is constantly getting bullied by the other students. They take away all the food from him, make fun of him, and whatnot.

The second example of bullying kids can be a student wearing new fancy shoes and the other’s getting jealous of him, and therefore, they tear apart his shoes. The victim gets upset, and this impacts his mind in a very negative manner.

Also, this can lead to conflict between the victims and the bully in a very negative way.

Intimidation is quite common than confrontation. Bullying is when someone uses their influence to manipulate someone else or hurt them. It’s violent and, like an assault, is intended to hurt. In school, bullies are often physically bigger or more powerful than their victims, giving them their authority.

Not all bullying is direct. To injure others, a bully can use words and insults. Bullying kids doesn’t have to be, either, in person. With the internet, bullies can hit people almost everywhere, including on the screen at home.

Here are some examples of what may look like bullying:

  • Name-calling or stiff teasing
  • Making fun of someone
  • Threatening harm
  • Striking or kicking
  • Shoving, pulling, or tripping
  • Disseminating rumors
  • Stealing or damaging belongings
  • Posting hurtful and cruel messages on social media or emails. This is called cyberbullying.

Why are children who learn and think differently at risk?

It is more likely that children who read and think differently will be bullied. Sometimes, this is because they stand out from the crowd. In school, they can have problems, such as difficulty reading or keeping still. Or maybe they get special programs, such as tutoring.

They may also lack confidence and self-esteem due to their struggles. This can make easy targets for them.

Not all victims of bullying are shy, however. Some kids (whether they mean to or not) who are hyperactive or misbehave often get bullied. Such children may be violent towards other students, or they may get frustrated easily. This may cause other children to shoot at them.

For adolescents, bullying is dangerous. Bullied students appear to have lower grades and worse test results than children who are not bullied. In and out of training, they participate less. And they’re more likely to miss school, skip school, or drop out.

Bulling, like depression and anxiety, can also cause mental health problems.

How to Combat Bullying

To stop bullying kids, you should take action to help. Next, make sure that if they’re bullied, children feel confident enough to say something. And urge them, if they see someone being harassed, to speak up. Ask them to report any intimidation to school staff or to step in and stop the bully if they are able to and feel safe.

Instead of being a bystander, some people call this being an “upstander.” Bullying also takes place where children cannot be supervised by adults, such as the playground, corridor, or school bus. Children who speak up will help stop the issue where it starts.

Teaching and modeling good behavior is another thing to do. Children take their cues from how adults behave. If children see adults make fun of someone different or teasing them, they will think it’s OK. They can also imitate this and act with fellow students the same way.

Finally, it is important to note that different regions now have anti-bullying legislation requiring schools to report bullying and prosecute it. Such laws are effective instruments to avoid bullying. Bullying kids is not just incorrect; it’s against the laws.

Types of bullying

There are several different kinds of bullying that children and adults alike can encounter, some of which are obvious to find, while others can be more subtle. The various forms of bullying that take place in the life of our children or even adolescents are as follows:

Physical bullying

Hitting, kicking, tripping, pinching, and pulling or destroying property involves physical bullying. Both short- and long-term harm is caused by physical bullying. Physical bullying not just hurts a kid physically, but it affects his mind as well.

Verbal Bullying

Verbal bullying involves the calling of names, threats, mocking, homophobic or racial gestures, or verbal harassment. While verbal bullying can start harmlessly, it can increase to levels that begin to affect the individual to a great extent.

Social Bullying

Social bullying, also referred to as hidden bullying, is sometimes more difficult to detect and can be performed behind the back of the bullied person. It is intended to damage the social image of someone and/or cause embarrassment.

Social intimidation can include:

  • Spreading and lying rumors
  • Threatening or contemptuous looks, derogatory facial or physical movements
  • Playing mean jokes to humiliate and shame.
  • Unkindly mimicking
  • Encouraging others to exclude anyone socially,
  • Damaging the social prestige or social acceptance of somebody.

Bullying is something which, as parents, you all should be highly aware of. Always be vigilant enough and develop a friendly rapport with your kids. So that they can come to you at the first instance of bullying. Your children should be able to trust you completely. Then only will they be ready to open up to you regarding the bullying he or she has been facing. When you get even the slightest hint that your kid has been bullied, take it seriously, assure him that you have got his back, and file a complaint against the bullies. Reach out to the parents, school authorities, raise noise and protect your kid against any such mishaps in the future.
